2 vs 4 slots dimm

By Administrator

The results were as expected (and also a good way to double-check that I hadn’t put the modules in the wrong slots). Going from dual-channel DDR4/2666 to quad-channel DDR4/2666 nearly doubles

The RAM slots will be color coded to indicate which RAM pairs go together. These pairs are usually 1 & 3 or 2 & 4. Make sure the RAM you install is the same (same type, same capacity, same chip) across the pairs, or in the case of a triple channel motherboard, across all three slots. Modern motherboards all come with a feature called Aug 02, 2017 Dec 21, 2017 Nov 14, 2017

A 4-DIMM kit with the same capacity uses half-density DDR4 silicon parts, which costs much less. At least for the manufacturer, lol. A 2-DIMM kit will not offer any real advantage worth paying for unless it has double-density and half the ranks vs the 4-DIMM kit. Raja's thread explains why you shouldn't mix and match memory kits. Im thinking of buying the ASUS PRIME X370-PRO and im going to buy a single kit of duel channel ram (2 x 8gb sticks). I have a picture of the motherboard manuals RAM configuration below, now my question is, does it matter if i use dimm slots A1 and B1 first, or dimm slots A2 and B2?

The extra two slots just allow for more ram to be address even though it is still only dual channel. The problem with populating all dimms with Ryzen is the fastest ram speed you can get is 2400mhz (actually even intel has issues with ram speed when you populate 4 slots on a dual channel chip or 8 slots on a quad channel chip).

Just because you have 4 dimm slots doesn't mean you can run quad I was thinking the example of 2 double lane rds vs 1 4 lane rd for double  8 Mar 2014 In this benchmark, we'll look at dual-channel vs. single-channel platform performance Slots 2 & 4 (bank 1) would then be filled upon upgrade. 3 Aug 2011 Trophy Points: 56. 4 means there are four slots for memory in the system board, 2 means there are two. The DIMM.2 card is a riser designed to decongest the crowded motherboard that has no room for M.2 slots. The DIMM.2 accessory is a PCB with two 32 Gb/s M.2 slots, and a riser interface that's similar to a DDR3 DIMM (so inserting DDR3 DIMMs this slot won't work).
